I didn't really face resistance until I got to the NBA. The cool thing about Minor League Baseball is that you are out on your own. I certainly had to navigate some of the conventional ideas that the players had about what training looked like but I was mostly able to operate freely. When I got to the NBA, we had a collection of staff from various backgrounds all blending together. I was the guy with the "weird voodoo stuff." I didn't want to "come in too hot" with my new colleagues so I just fell into line for months until an opportunity presented itself. I write about that moment a lot with one of our athletes who had stubborn neck pain. The Diamondbacks were a very forward thinking organization so what I was doing was mostly accepted. Outside of that facility, I mainly had to navigate perceptions (and I still do).
